National Sorghum Producers Thanks Secretary Rollins for Strong Sorghum Role in Food Assistance Forecast

WASHINGTON (Oct. 22, 2026) — National Sorghum Producers (NSP) today thanked U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins for USDA’s fiscal year 2027 international food assistance forecast, which includes 144,230 metric tons of U.S. sorghum, equivalent to approximately 5.7 million bushels, through Food for Peace.

“We thank Secretary Rollins and her team for recognizing the important role sorghum farmers play in feeding people around the world,” said NSP Chair Garrett Love, a sorghum farmer from Montezuma, Kansas. “NSP has worked to protect Food for Peace, support its move to USDA and ensure American-grown sorghum remains a vital part of its mission. Today’s announcement reflects progress on those priorities and represents meaningful demand for our farmers while providing food to families facing hunger.”

Strengthening Food for Peace and preserving its use of U.S.-grown commodities have been longstanding NSP priorities. The organization has worked with Congress, USDA and agricultural partners to support the program and strengthen the connection between American farmers and international food assistance.

USDA’s forecast includes approximately 5.7 million bushels of U.S. sorghum to help feed families in East and West Africa. Final purchase volumes remain subject to funding, market availability and project adjustments.
