Discuss the Latest Industry Issues and Trends
at 2016 Sorghum General Session

LUBBOCK, Texas — Learn about the latest issues and trends in the sorghum industry at the 2016 Sorghum General Session on Thursday, March 3 as part of the 2016 Commodity Classic.

“Producers across the Sorghum Belt face unprecedented challenges from the sharp decline in commodity prices, increasing pressure from new pests like the sugarcane aphid and evermore restrictive environmental regulations,” National Sorghum Producers CEO Tim Lust said. “This year’s Sorghum General Session will discuss what we are doing to help sorghum farmers meet these challenges and expand opportunities for improved sorghum agronomics and profitability.”

Moderated by WIBW broadcaster Greg Akagi, this year’s Sorghum General Session will feature speakers on the sorghum pipeline, managing the sugarcane aphid, price outlooks, farm policy communications trends and more. Wayne Schumacher, commercialization manager for North America at DuPont Crop Protection, will provide specific insight into ALS herbicides, including the recent approval of nicosulfuron, the active ingredient in DuPont Zest™ herbicide.

The 2016 Sorghum General Session also includes industry insight applicable to all producers. Phillip Hayes, co-founder of North Bridge Communications, will speak on understanding the challenges of communication amidst generational shifts, media changes and the rise of pathological science. Additionally, Randy Allen, the founder and CEO of RWA Financial Services, will speak on how producers should “manage money, not the grain,” providing insight into how farmers can position themselves for the future in an era of low farm prices.

Established in 1996, Commodity Classic is America’s largest farmer-led, farmer-focused convention and trade show, produced by the National Corn Growers Association, American Soybean Association, National Association of Wheat Growers, National Sorghum Producers and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.
