Commodity Classic 2014: General Session

Thousands of exhibitors and attendees gathered this morning in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2014 Commodity Classic General Session. As a kind of wrap-up to the week, this year’s General Session featured both new and familiar faces.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, delivering the keynote address, spoke to the assembly about the new farm bill and its implementation. He closed his speech with a passionate ‘thank you’ to all farmers and ranchers for their efforts and contributions to America’s way of life.

Next, the chairmen from all four commodity organizations represented at Classic took turns speaking to the crowd about issues impacting their crops and industries. NSP Chairman J.B. Stewart of Keyes, Okla., used the opportunity talk about several topics within the sorghum industry, including the “Sorghum: The Smart Choice” branding campaign, the Chinese export market, and “wins” for sorghum in the new farm bill.

Tomorrow is the last day of Commodity Classic 2014. Check back in the morning for another update on sorghum activities and events.
