NSP Announces Endorsement of Dr. Roger Marshall

LUBBOCK, Texas — National Sorghum Producers announces the organization’s endorsement of Dr. Roger Marshall for the 1st Congressional District of Kansas.

“NSP is seeking a partner in government from the largest sorghum-producing Congressional district in the country,” James Born, NSP Chairman, said. “Marshall has demonstrated a willingness to learn and take action during this time of legislative and regulatory challenges.”

The NSP board of directors supports Marshall’s strong stance against regulatory overreach by the Environmental Protection Agency as well as advocacy of both crop insurance and the Renewable Fuel Standard.

“Marshall is focused on the issues important to agriculture,” Tim Lust, NSP CEO, said. “As we approach the next Farm Bill, sorghum producers need representation on the House Agriculture Committee.”

The Big First Congressional district averages 1.9 million acres of planted sorghum worth $536 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service. The district also includes all of the state’s sorghum ethanol plants, except one that sources its sorghum from the Big First. Together, those plants produce more than 380 million gallons of ethanol annually.
