NSP Welcomes New Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue

LUBBOCK, Texas — National Sorghum Producers welcomes the opportunity to work with Sonny Perdue who was confirmed last night by the U.S. Senate as the new Secretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“National Sorghum Producers congratulates Sonny Perdue on his new position leading the USDA,” said Don Bloss, NSP board chairman and farmer from Pawnee City, Nebraska. “We look forward to working with Perdue on current and future issues, especially as we head into the next farm bill dialogue, that affect sorghum farmers across the U.S.”

Perdue served in the Georgia senate for 11 years before serving two terms as governor. As Secretary of Agriculture for the USDA, Perdue will oversee all aspects of America’s food providers, distributors, and farmers and ranchers in an effort to provide a safe, healthy and affordable U.S. food supply.

As agriculture anticipates a new advocate and leader in the Administration, NSP will work closely with Perdue and the USDA on issues important to the sorghum industry like farm programs, trade, market development, energy and more. Perdue was officially sworn in today.
