National Sorghum Producers Announce Rule Changes for 2016 NSP Yield Contest
LUBBOCK, Texas — The 2016 National Sorghum Producers Yield Contest will include updated divisions as well as other rule changes.
All divisions previously listed as non-irrigated will now be labeled as dryland, and prior mulch-till division entries will now fall under the reduced-till divisions. As a result, the categories for the 2016 NSP Yield Contest are as follows:
- Irrigated No-Till
- Irrigated Reduced Till
- Irrigated Conventional Till
- Irrigated Double Crop
- Dryland No-Till
- Dryland Reduced Till
- Dryland Conventional Till
- Dryland Double Crop
Additionally, while contestants must still be a certified FSA owner/operator of the entry plot, the FSA Form 578 is no longer required to enter the NSP Yield Contest. Finally, producers can now submit harvest reports, aerial map, weigh tickets and management information by email to yieldcontest@sorghumgrowers.com, by fax to 806-749-9002 or by mail.

NSP has set a yield goal of 250 bushels per acre or more to illustrate sorghum’s yield potential. All division placings will be determined by yield only. NSP is offering incentives with support from the United Sorghum Checkoff Program to award growers who reach this new benchmark.
